Thanks for the tip!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16329631506284749831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-388014615339890178.post-92161430198838627492020-03-31T07:00:31.805-05:002020-03-31T07:00:31.805-05:00Very interesting post. I’ve wondered at them for years and come to the conclusion that the choice of finger depends more on the position you are shifting from or to and less on the position you are in. For example, the 4s in bars 14 and 17 prepare you for the subsequent shift back to 1. It’s a more fluid way of playing, more like the way a pianist might finger a passage. I don’t think players of that time and that school thought so much about playing in positions which might explain why the intonation wasn’t so great!Chris Westhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01670005450371337994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-388014615339890178.post-15401253083356101982020-03-25T08:48:49.130-05:002020-03-25T08:48:49.130-05:00Second stand of basses = Dr Fauci, face palming.Second stand of basses = Dr Fauci, face palming.Michael Hovnanianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07822257921093170726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-388014615339890178.post-86798397767204940372020-03-25T08:17:47.860-05:002020-03-25T08:17:47.860-05:00Watching Sir Georg and Signor Guastafeste in a col...Watching Sir Georg and Signor Guastafeste in a colloquy divining the intentions of Verdi back in the day was an excellent preparation for our current spectacle of the Commander in Chief and his Vice President fashioning our Corona Virus response.nocynichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07998727400312237867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-388014615339890178.post-9903082610417291142020-03-24T23:32:46.844-05:002020-03-24T23:32:46.844-05:00As I’ve gotten older I find myself using 1-3 for h...As I’ve gotten older I find myself using 1-3 for half-steps in the lowest positions especially for trillls, say D#-E natural on the D string. Two things about it I like: it puts the E high enough without having to angle the hand too much and in so doing actually puts the 4th finger much closer to the string should it be needed quickly after the trill. Funny, in my 20’s I was all about extensions, now I’m much more about compression fingerings. I think in one of the Bille books I remember chromatic scales fingered 1-3 up the string. I think 1-3 also works nice for double stop maj 3rd’s, say G-B on the D &G strings for the same reason It may be just my hand though.Dimskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07242316931079617578noreply@blogger.com
